Artists Matter
The pandemic has had a profound effect on artists across the globe, where many have lost their beloved stages. In 2019 the U.K. Goverment released an advert, suggesting a ballet dancer should retrain in cyber security. As a designer there is great responsibility to support the art which blossoms around us, to represent artists and their professions. Through the use of the performative site, Buchanan Street, artists can gain back their stages; regardless of the level of lockdown in Glasgow's city centre. Through the technical intervention of solar powered lighting, the stage brings light to the pandemic's ghostly streets, even through the night. Revitalising a sense of life and community, demonstrating to the Government just how much Artists Matter.
(2 week project, February 2021)
"What an artist is trying to do for people is bring them closer to something, because of course art is about sharing. You wouldn't be an artist unless you wanted to share an experience, a thought." - David Hockney
